Good Reads | Spring 2012

The Language of Flowers |Vanessa Diffenbaugh

This book made me want to run out and grab some flowers!  I loved everything about the book…the voice, the story, the flowers….  This story follows Victoria who bounced around from foster home to foster home as a child.  She grew up bitter and cynical…until she discovered her love for flowers and experienced the love of a mother for the first time.  As the story unfolds…jumping between the past (her childhood at age 10) and the present (as an adult at 18) the plot delves a bit deeper into psychology, love, and growing up.  With flowers and their Victorian meaning deeply integrated into the story and delicately woven into the plot the beauty of the writing unfolded wonderfully for me.

Bossypants | Tina Fey

It’s not often that a book makes me literally laugh out loud.  This is one of them.  I love Tina Fey’s sense of humor…and she definitely nailed a few of her topics spot on!  If you like Tina Fey…this is a must!!

Fifty Shades of Grey | EL James

Hot.  Steamy.  I’m not going to go into great detail here….I think those two words are apt to describe this book!

The Lightning Thief | Rick Riordan

Yes…I realize I’m probably too old to be reading this…but no, I don’t care.  Definitely a quick and easy read…and entertaining throughout.  This series of books follow Percy Jackson…the son of Poseidon…on his many modern day heroic adventures.  Like Hercules, Percy Jackson is half god and half mortal…also known as a demi-god.  After reading this I’d definitely recommend it to any young adult reader…or any adult who likes young adult books like I do!  This series would be a great way to get a pre-teen boy interested in reading!
