Maternity Wear Top 10

1.  Liz Lange Maternity Tank

Yes, I bought this tank in every color.  Yes, I wore them nearly every day during my pregnancy.  And yes, I still wear them now.  They are thicker than your usual cheapo tank that you find these days, so I felt comfortable wearing the tank by itself with nothing underneath (other than a bra).  They are nice and long and you can’t tell that they are a maternity top by looking at them…but trust me, they do the job throughout the entire pregnancy (all the way to week 41)!

2.  Liz Lange Tunic Tees

I liked these particular shirts because they were nice and long (midway through the pregnancy I could wear them with leggings as a tunic and around 41 weeks they fit more like a shirt.  Comfy, lightweight material.  The material is nice enough that you can wear these dressy or casual.  I didn’t find other maternity tees that I liked…this was it for me.

3.  Spanx Power Mama

Hello comfort.  Goodbye ugly underwear lines.  Let’s face it, your underwear doesn’t fit and isn’t comfortable anyway.  They gave me a little extra support in front under the belly and didn’t ride up like the rest of my underwear tended to during pregnancy.  Perfect for a seamless look under a dress.  And can we say sexy?!  Ok, maybe not so much.  (Note:  There is also a version of these by Assets that have a bit lower price point…I liked the Power Mamas better because they gave more support, but if you’re just looking for coverage the Assets Marvelous Mamas are nice, too)

5.  Long Cardigans or Boyfriend Sweaters

Layering is the name of the game during pregnancy.  And long cardigans or boyfriend sweaters are perfect because they hug the body in the right places to show off the bump, cover the other places, they are comfortable, and they can be worn after pregnancy.  Score.

4.  Maxi Skirt or Dress

I think I probably wore a maxi skirt close to 50% of my pregnancy.  A must for summer pregnancies!

6.  Maternity Jeans/Pants

Do yourself a favor and get a good pair of maternity jeans.  A pair that is comfortable, fits great, and looks great will go a long way.  I thought full panel pants (also known as ‘secret fit’) were most comfortable because I had to keep pulling the others up.  All.  Day.  Long.  Bleh.  My favorite pairs were Paige, Citizens for Humanity, H&M Mama (size up….they run small), and a fun pair of mint skinnies from Gap.  I shopped around eBay for a good deal on higher end jeans rather than paying the same price for a crappy pair…well worth the effort!

7.  Dress

I preferred a more fitted dress throughout my pregnancy (half the time I felt like I just had a beer belly in baggier dresses rather than a cute preggo belly).  All personal preference on the fit, though!  ASOS was my favorite for maternity dress selection.

8.  Good Leggings

Emphasis on ‘good’.  The only pair of comfortable maternity leggings that I found were from Motherhood and they had a stretchy full panel.  Other brands had an awkward seam down the front or weren’t big enough to stretch over the belly.  These were amazing and I lived in them the last month or so of my pregnancy (it was fall…so I was able to get away with this by dressing them up with cute boots and sweaters).

9.  Sanuks

Pregnant or not, I love these!  The soles are made of yoga mat and it’s like walking on a cloud.  If you’ve never tried a pair, do yourself a favor and get some!

10.  Accessories!

Rather than going out and buying tons of new clothes that you’ll only wear for a few months, stick with the basics in basic colors and dress them up with fun scarves, necklaces, chunky bracelets, skinny belts, and shoes!
